foo dogs
On design sponge yesterday there was a snapshot of some astrology art by P.S. I made this and below that piece was a lovely console table with a foo dog atop...
picture via D*SWe found the foo dogs again at the Kips Bay Decorator Show house by Cullman & Kravis...
We currently have those same foo dogs in the store!

valentine's day is near...
I thought I would look up some Valentine's day fun facts, to give me the good ole red and pink, hearts and flowery, kind of feeling...

Supposed Fact #1:
In the Middle Ages, young men and women drew names from a bowl to see who would be their Valentine. They would wear this name pinned onto their sleeves for one week for everyone to see. This was the origin of the expression
"to wear your heart on your sleeve."
"to wear your heart on your sleeve."
Supposed Fact #2:
Many believe the 'X' symbol became synonymous with the kiss in medieval times. People who couldn't write their names signed in front of a witness with an 'X.' The 'X' was then kissed to show their sincerity
Valentine's Day superstition:
A girl can observe the birds she sees on Valentine's day to predict the kind of
husband she will marry...

Sparrow: a poor man
Owl: she will remain a spinster
Bluebird: a happy man
Blackbird: a priest or clergyman
I pray you will all see bluebirds, but for whatever kind of bird you see, have a crush on, are dating, or are married to...
come see the Byrd that's a sure bet...
lovely gifts and clever cards!

ellie the elephant
one of our favorite illustrations is smock's ellie the elephant. she's perfect in every way...and parents seem to agree with us too! on the left, is our first ellie birth annoucement, done last year for a darling couple from dallas. it appears meryl was a trendsetter and inspired gillian's parents from atlanta! one thing's for sure: these parents have impeccable taste in stationery and beautiful baby names. come meet ellie and have her dress up any of your child's social stationery. she'd be happy to!
and ps: smock is finally on facebook!
pps: and another thanks to smock for featuring this fine set of social stationery on their blog last week!
